Judging
Based upon quality of spoken French. Dramatization, props, costumes, etc. are highly encouraged but not scored. (Click here to view the Group Skit Scoring Sheets.)
Time Limits
Levels 1 & 2: 4-6 minutes
Levels 3 & Advanced: 5-8 minutes
*Minimum and maximum time limits must be met in order to avoid point deduction. (see Score Sheet)
Timing is counted from the first spoken word to the bow indicating the conclusion of the skit. Practice the bow!
Eligibility
Students must be non-native speakers of French. Good judgment should be used in determining if a student is a native speaker or not. Students compete at the level of French in which they are currently enrolled or at a higher level, but not at a lower level. If a student has joined his/her French Club, but is not currently taking French, he/she may compete at the next highest level of competition. For example, a student who has completed two years of French may wish to compete at Level III. If there is any question about how a student should be classified, please contact the President Club before submitting your entry.
Selections
Skits may be traditional (published) or original (written by students and/or sponsor). Selections may, but are not required to, reflect the Convention’s theme. A club may not perform the same skit two (2) years in a row. Singing during a skit is permitted if it is incidental to the plot and kept to a minimum.
Other details
Anyone attending convention may observe these presentations. Sponsors are responsible for the behavior of their students in the audience.
Prompting from the audience will result in the entry being disqualified.
Spectators may only photograph or video their own school’s performance.
The stage size is approximately 15′ x 20′ and contains several chairs and a table or two for your use. Schools must bring any other props.
Entries will be announced by the judges.
There will be no identification of competitors during competition except by number and selection. Competitors are not allowed to wear anything signifying that they belong to an officer club or any identifying t-shirts during the competition.
Performers must bow to signal the conclusion of their skit. Practice the bow!
