Overview
Students, pretending to be “serveurs“, race in relay fashion the length of the Ballroom.
Number of Entries
1 team per school (8 students max per team)
Time Limit
None–first to finish wins!
Procedure & Rules
Four (4) students from a competing team will stand at one end of the room, while the other four (4) students stand at the other end of the room. The first person to race for the team will be provided with a tray containing several loose items. When “À vos marques, prêts, partez !” is called, they will carry* their trayful of items as quickly as possible to the other end of the room, hand it off to the next “serveur“, who then continues the relay back in the original direction. The race ends when the last member of a team crosses the finish line.
*Note: The tray must be carried with one hand, palm facing up, under the tray. The other hand must be placed behind the back. (This is an upscale restaurant, après tout!)
If a “serveur” drops an item off their tray, they must stop where they are, gather the item and place it back on their tray before continuing the race.
A team may race with fewer than 8 “serveurs”, but one (or more) of their participants must run (an) additional leg(s) of the race in order to compete fairly with the other teams.
Depending on participation, winning teams may need to run in subsequent heats (races) in order to determine a winner.
